Rationale:As a district adopted LMS, the need has arisen for administrators, teachers, students, and parents to be able to use Canvas as a learning and teaching tool. This new adoption requires intense professional learning and peer collaboration to get all professional staff using the LMS effectively within a two year time frame. To also embrace the new digital age of students and the varying learning styles present within our current student population.
General features:Canvas provides the ability to work in an online environment at anytime, and in any place as long as there is an internet connection. Instant feedback and communication tools can be tailored to an individual's preference.
5 Attributes:
Relative Advantage:District supported LMS that has training and troubleshooting in house led by people within the district, removing the need to rely on solely outside support to run and operate an LMS at a district level.
Compatibility:The interface has a Word Document appearance that allows for familiarity for staff. It allows for an environment in which teachers can take their existing work and create a platform for instruction and delivery.
Complexity:On the surface any LMS is difficult to use to the average user or user base. It can appear to be overwhelming for even the more seasoned educators. However, with district adoption the service and support exist at various levels.
Trialability:A controlled environment that will both teach and allow for creative experimentation without the involvement of students. One can make trial courses and consequence free scenarios in which to test functionality and capability.
Observability:Early adopters can share their Canvas experiences with regard to data and products of the learning experience. This can stimulate peer discussions, and open doors to peer partnerships.
